On-Demand ERP Is Here

This is an article from: http://www.autofieldguide.com/articles/010807.html
Look what’s gaining traction in enterprise resource planning: A new way to run it offsite. By Lawrence S. Gould, Contributing Editor

The article mentions Plexus Online in a few places. This is my favorite cut from it. Version control is easier in a SaaS setup. Plexus, for example, has only one version of its software on a single infrastructure. “We don’t have to cast about through a thousand different client-server configurations before shipping a patch with new features. Instead, we roll out new features every day."

Blog dedicated to Plexus Online™ Manufacturing Software.

July Recap – Blog dedicated to Plexus Online™ Manufacturing Software.

"D'oh!" Missed the April, May, June recap.

Since starting this blog in April, I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with it. I’m now on my way to knowing what it’s about: Plexus Systems, http://www.plex.com/, Plexus Online™ , the employees at Plexus and the occasional thing that I find interesting.

With the blog subject determination behind me, it’s time to work on establishing a reader base. As you can see above, I didn’t start tracking it until last month, but my blog is now taking its first baby steps out into the World Wide Web.

Yes, success is a fickle creature, not only in blogging but in the manufacturing software world, where underdogs can sometimes topple titans and groundbreaking emerging technologies can change the face of an industry. For those who follow or work in the Plexus Online™ universe, there's never a dull moment.

Because of the economic shift in the manufacturing industry, the emergence of new software is vital for businesses to stay competitive, meet their customer demands, adjust to market shifts and to keep business processes efficient to gain better profit margins. I’ll dedicate this blog to showing you how Plexus Online™ is the on-demand manufacturing software system that will enable you to not only keep up with the demands and shifts in the manufacturing industry, but to excel.

ROI of at least 20%

Peerless Steel's Randy Remdenok deployed a hosted ERP program (from Plexus Systems, Inc.) at the steel distributor some five years ago, making the Michigan company something of an ERP pioneer. Remdenok says the rewards of the hosted approach have far outweighed any risks to the business. The proof? Peerless Steel has consistently achieved an annual ROI of at least 20 percent on its hosted ERP investment.

Most of Peerless Steel's returns have come from downsizing its IT department. That's hardly surprising: hosted software is basically a form of business-process outsourcing. "When you eliminate eight salaries," notes Remdenok, "the cost to operate [the software] is less than what we're paying for our existing staff."

On-demand apps are not only maintenance savers, they're also a heck of a lot easier to deploy than conventional software. An on-site or proprietary system must be carefully tested for server compatibility, performance, and other hardware-related issues. By contrast, deploying software as a service typically requires just a few weeks of prep work (mostly spent configuring the software, scrubbing data, and training users).

Patrick Fetterman - Marketing: No Muda!

After working in software marketing for many years, Patrick Fetterman took a new job in 2007 with Plexus Systems, Plexus Systems, Inc. offers solutions for manufacturers. At Plexus, he was thunderstruck by the convergence of three concepts: lean manufacturing, rapid application development, and the "on-demand" or software-as-a-service delivery model.
