Worldwide SaaS to Hit $5.1 Billion in 2007, Gartner Says
"SaaS adoption is highest in applications that support simplified, common business processes or large, distributed virtual workforce teams," says Sharon Mertz, research director of Gartner. "Ease of use, rapid deployment, limited upfront investment in capital and staffing, plus a reduction in software management responsibility, all make SaaS a desirable alternative to many on-premises solutions, and they will continue to act as drivers of growth."

Plexus Online Shares Software Purchasing Secrets
The paper provides a reality check on software usability, fit and cost of ownership. For example, the paper recommends that manufacturers ask a series of questions about potential problems with user adoption of the system, and make key users (such as shop floor employees) part of the decision process.

Plexus Online™ Transitioned to full UTf-8 Unicode Front-End
Glen Tillman, Senior Application Engineer, announced the following system upgrade was completed today at Plexus Systems, Inc.
At 7:20am this morning, we successfully transitioned Plexus Online™ (POL) to a full UTF-8 Unicode front-end. All known data that was previously entered in a foreign language was completely converted by 10:45am.
There are two major implications to this.
First, from now on, selecting a language from the pull down menu will only affect two things: what language the menu is displayed in, and what language the glossary entries are displayed in.
Second, all data, no matter what language it was entered in, the data will render the same regardless of the language selection. This means if you are in an English session and view data that was entered in Japanese, the Japanese will display correctly.
This is a terrific bonus to our customers that have previously been mixing languages - now it will render properly at all times, not just when they remember to pick the right language.

"I would also like to thank, in particular, Matt Young and Joe Blackmer for a job well done. While the entire team helped identify and fix the issues that were uncovered as we went along, these two were key in designing and programming the fundamental changes to the POL backbone that enabled this full conversion to happen. I couldn't be happier with the job they have done. Kudos!" - Glen Tillman
In case you are wondering, approximately 160,000 menu nodes, 150,000 glossary entries, and 125,000 user entered records were converted (give or take).
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

The time is right for software companies to look for public funding, Mr. Jacobs said. And Intacct’s Mr. Braun thinks it’s just the beginning. “It’s just inevitable that new companies will replace the old,” he said. “And that means there are going to be more and more IPOs.”
